Program of the IRM2011 - the lectures
To differ from usual reenactment markets or museum's events, the the IRM follows a unique concept which incorporates also lectures. These lectures will cover topics ranging from history, historical reconstructions, re-enactment, living history to just experiencing past times.
The following lectures will be held on the IRM:

Saturday evening's lecture on Roman glass reproductions:
On the saturday evening,the lecture "Roman glass reprodoctopyn by the Ichendorf glassworks - An overview over the current research" will lead from the IRM's market hours over to the comfortable nad of the day including the "Reenactment-Season-Opening-BBQ".
Many glassmakers and glass factories have tried to reproduce Roman glass. Some had just commercial interests, some focused on the resesearch. Taking the Ichendorf glassworks near Cologe for an example, Frank Wiesenberg explains the development from the first researches during the 1960s until the series of glass reproductions until the plant closed in the mid-1980s.
After the lecture and during the barbecue there will be some opportunities to discuss some of the glass reproductions in detail.
This lecture is one of the series "Vortraege des Foerderkreises der Villa Borg". Admission is free for visitors of the IRM and members of the Villa Borg supporters club. Other visitors are welcome.

Sunday evening's lecture on Roman cooking:
Antike schmecken
Folgen Sie Edgar Comes an die Feuerstellen einer kulinarischen Epoche.
Im Rahmen der 1. Internationalen Reenactmentmesse in der römischen Villa Borg hält unser Autor Edgar Comes (Das Römer Kochbuch) einen unterhaltsamen Vortrag über die römische Küche.
“De re coquinaria” gilt seit vielen Jahren als Geheimtipp unter Gourmets. Für Edgar Comes ist es an der Zeit, mit althergebrachten Klischees aufzuräumen, die die Kochkunst der alten Römer als überaus gewöhnungsbedürftig schildern. Denn das durch Verwendung von Fischsauce und vielen Kräutern hervorgerufene Rümpfen der Nase, steht im absoluten Gegensatz zum Geschmackserlebnis eines römischen 6-Gang Menüs.
Damit Sie sich davon überzeugen können, wie Antike wirklich schmeckt, präsentiert Edgar Comes im Anschluss an den Vortrag kleine Kostproben aus seinem Buch.

DAS RÖMER KOCHBUCH wurde mit dem World Cookbook Award als bestes deutsches Kochbuch in der Kategorie “Italian Cuisine” ausgezeichnet.
Edgar Comes, Jahrgang 1964, hatte von Kind an Interesse an der römischen Geschichte. 1998 wurde er Mitglied der “Milites Bedenses”, eines Vereins für experimentelle Archäologie e.V. Bitburg, der in ganz Europa unterwegs ist und bei allen wichtigen Römerevents mitwirkt. Der Autor hat sich als leidenschaftlicher Hobbykoch ganz besonders der römischen Küche verschrieben. Über Workshops und Kochkurse bringt er seit mehreren Jahren seinen Zeitgenossen die Geheimnisse des römischen Kochens näher.
